This 1oz jar works as a protective topcoat, varnish, and painting medium, making it useful across watercolor, gouache, oil painting, acrylic, collage, mixed media, drawings, photographs, pour art, canvas, encaustics, ceramics, polymer clay, wood, metal, and more. It is especially popular as a varnish for watercolor and gouache paintings because it creates a durable waterproof finish that adds depth to color and can allow for glassless framing and display.

The finish is flexible in both look and feel. Leave the wax surface slightly rough for a softer matte effect, or buff it with a rag after drying for a smooth, uniform high-gloss finish. Apply it straight for a classic waxed look, or tint it with a small amount of pigment, dye, oil color, or alcohol ink when you want a subtle colored finish.
